Surf Lines II (Limited Edition)

I captured these images at the far southern tip of New Zealand’s South Island, in a place called Curio Bay. To create them, I used a method known as Intentional Camera Movement (ICM), where the camera is deliberately moved - in this case, horizontally - during the exposure. This approach allowed me to interpret the scene in a more abstract way, introducing a soft blur while still preserving just enough detail to hold on to the essence of the landscape. (It requires patience and plenty of trial and error to achieve the right balance!)

The final images reveal a tranquil coastal vista, where sky and sea merge in quiet harmony. The flowing bands of blue, broken by streaks of white surf and a delicate line of sand, create a soothing rhythm that mirrors the calm of the shoreline. The gentle abstraction invites the viewer to pause, reflect, and connect with the meditative beauty of the natural world - making it a serene piece for any space.
